Izvorul Tămăduirii Hermitage, Poșaga

The hermitage is in Poșaga, half an hour from Sălciua, beside the stream of Valea Poșegii and the spring that gave it its name, Izvorul Tămăduirii.

You enter through a heavy oak gate, carved in 1981 by a craftsman from Baia Sprie. The wooden church sits on a stone foundation, is dedicated to the Dormition of the Mother of God, and dates from 1933. The prior's house, bell tower, and fence were added in 1979, and monastic life began only after 1990.

The road is paved almost all the way up. Only about two kilometres of forest track are left. The hermitage stands at the mouth of the gorges, and a hundred metres on, across a footbridge over the stream, is the spring that people say heals.
