Sub Piatra Hermitage
≈ 800 m from the guesthouse
The hermitage is a couple of minutes from the guesthouse, beneath the same rock of Bedeleu that gave the village its name. The limestone plateau breaks off to the northwest in a steep wall. The wooden church is a historic monument, dates from 1797, and is dedicated to Saint Parascheva.
It is said to have been built on the site of an older one, destroyed in the time of General Bukow, when the monks are supposed to have hidden their treasure in a cave in Bedeleu. Today the grounds hold relics of several saints, and the Romanian Patriarchate gave the hermitage a vestment of Saint Parascheva from Iași.
The settlement is small and lives simply. In summer the nuns take the cattle out to pasture and sew or embroider church vestments. It is a quiet place. Students and pilgrims of all ages pass through now and then.
